Last month, I woke up to crossing 200K followers. So I’m going to throw some reality bombs (because I can 😎):

More followers doesn’t mean more money. My products sell to a few people because of my niche, so a growing following doesn’t mean more sales.
Zero to 50K is a fun playground. After that, it’s a lot of responsibility that I’ve taken on my shoulders. This is so I don’t misguide anyone and retain the energy of making readers feel whole instead of ‘less’ as social media makes them feel anyway.
Yeah it’s been pretty amusing when someone recognises me in real life. The first thing I ask them is, “Do you like my work or is it cringe?” I’m still a bit weird about this LinkedIn thing lol.
I’m not sure why brands pay 2x to agencies for sponsorships because agencies will pay us half, or less. Not to mention they make us chase them for months to get paid. It’s the reason I’ve started leaving money on the table for the sake of my mental peace and ethics.
As long as you stay true to your inner self and serve your audience, most people will like you. Some men would troll you, but that just shows how they feel about a successful woman (read: insecure).
It’s been exhilarating to speak about characters who troubled me at work. It’s also a cheap thrill but it’s shocking that many people relate to those folks and have suffered. Makes me think that toxicity and lack of empathy are traits that we can work towards.
I love calling out the corporate world for what it does wrong. But not for a second do I think everyone should quit. Everyone cannot be an entrepreneur, musician, or athlete. Yet everyone is stuck in a 9–5?! Feels unfair to put people in buckets.

I’m telling you this because many of you:

have a ‘follower goal’ 🤦🏻‍♀️
think you’ll be more successful if you grow
feel you’ll earn more if you have more followers
are refreshing and focussing on your stats too much
think big-number people are living the time of their life

To you, I hope the above paints a reality.

As for how I feel about this, I’m truly grateful that there are actual real people in this world who take out their finite time to read what I write.

That’s the time they’ll never get back, yet they choose to spend it on my work.
